4 words, 4 levels: from basic to brilliant

Learning Italian words is great—but playing with them is even better! In 4 words, 4 levels, I take four everyday Italian words and give you a fresh synonym for each, from beginner to advanced. It’s like a vocabulary boost, step by step! Take simple words like buono, grande, felice, or veloce—pick one, start upgrading it, and most importantly, start using it! Learning new words is fun, but making them your own is where the magic happens. Ready to add some extra sparkle to your Italian? Here we go!

1. Buono (good)

🔹 Beginner: Questa pizza è buona. (This pizza is good.)
🔹 Elementary: Questa pizza è gustosa. (This pizza is tasty.)
🔹 Intermediate: Questa pizza è ottima, l’impasto è perfetto! (This pizza is excellent, the dough is perfect!)
🔹 Advanced: Questo piatto ha un equilibrio di sapori squisito, davvero raffinato. (This dish has a delicious balance of flavours, truly refined.)

2. Grande (big/large)

🔹 Beginner: La mia casa è grande. (My house is big.)
🔹 Elementary: La mia casa è spaziosa. (My house is spacious.)
🔹 Intermediate: Abito in una casa ampia, con un bel giardino. (I live in a spacious house with a nice garden.)
🔹 Advanced: Il palazzo era colossale, con stanze decorate in stile barocco. (The palace was colossal, with rooms decorated in Baroque style.)

3. Felice (happy)

🔹 Beginner: Sono felice oggi. (I am happy today.)
🔹 Elementary: Sono contento perché è il mio compleanno! (I am happy because it’s my birthday!)
🔹 Intermediate: Dopo l’esame, ero soddisfatto del mio risultato. (After the exam, I was satisfied with my result.)
🔹 Advanced: Alla notizia della sua promozione, era raggiante di gioia. (At the news of his promotion, he was beaming with joy.)

4. Veloce (fast)

🔹 Beginner: La macchina è veloce. (The car is fast.)
🔹 Elementary: La macchina è rapida. (The car is quick.)
🔹 Intermediate: Questo treno è molto celere, arriveremo presto. (This train is very swift, we’ll arrive soon.)
🔹 Advanced: Ha risolto il problema in modo fulmineo, senza esitazioni. (He solved the problem in a flash, without hesitation.)
